Extinction Rebellion Storms Barclays in Brighton – Four Arrested!
XR Protesters Lock On Outside Barclays
This afternoon, November 14, climate activists from Extinction Rebellion staged a dramatic protest outside Barclays bank on North Street, Brighton. The group “locked on” in a bold move to spotlight environmental issues tied to the high street bank.
Nationwide Day of Action Targets Big Banks
The Brighton stunt was part of a wider UK-wide demonstration, with similar protests erupting in cities like Birmingham and Aberdeen. Extinction Rebellion aimed to ramp up pressure on Barclays and other high street banks for their role in climate change.
Police Step In – Four Arrested
Sussex Police arrived at the scene around 1.15 pm and quickly acted to keep the peace. A police spokesperson said:
“Officers engaged with those present and the business to facilitate a peaceful protest and minimise disruption to the public. Four people have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass and taken into custody.”
The arrested activists now face charges, as Barclays resumes normal operations amid heightened tension.
