Four Arrested in Romford Murder Shock

Detectives have made a fourth arrest in the murder investigation of a woman in Romford. A 35-year-old man was detained on Sunday evening, 17 August, on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in police custody.

He joins three other men already held: a 35-year-old on suspicion of murder, and two younger men, 21 and 22, arrested for assisting an offender. All four suspects are currently in custody.

Victim Named as Zahwa Salah Mukhtar, 27

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Zahwa Salah Mukhtar. Zahwa was fatally assaulted in Chadwell Heath Lane, Romford, in the early hours of Saturday, 16 August.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 5.30am, but despite their efforts, Zahwa was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family, supported by specialist officers, paid tribute saying:

“Zahwa was a kind and loving person with high aspirations in life and her presence brought warmth to those around her. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. Zahwa’s tragic loss has left us heartbroken, and she will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in our hearts forever.”

Police Launch Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Superintendent Brian Hobbs is leading the inquiry. He told the press:

“Our thoughts today are with the victim’s family and friends in light of this truly tragic event.

Although arrests have been made, residents will continue to see a strong police presence in Romford while our investigation continues.

I urge anyone who was in the area and saw or heard anything suspicious to come forward.”

Police believe the crime was isolated and the parties involved knew each other.
