Tragedy in Birmingham as Dad Hit by Speeding Police Car

Roger Bagnall Named After Fatal Police Collision

A 40-year-old father of two, Roger Bagnall, has been identified as the man who died after being struck by a West Midlands Police car. The incident happened at around 7pm on Wednesday, March 19, on Yardley Road in Acocks Green, Birmingham.

The marked, double-crewed police vehicle was rushing to a 999 call reporting a man carrying knives nearby when the collision occurred. Mr Bagnall was crossing the road at the time and suffered critical injuries. Emergency responders tried to save him but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

IOPC Opens Investigation – Witnesses Sought

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the crash. They’ve issued a public appeal for witnesses and dash cam footage, which has already led to some valuable information coming forward.

“Our thoughts remain with Mr Bagnall’s family and all those affected by this tragic incident. We are continuing to gather evidence and would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage from the area at the time.”

Police officers involved are cooperating fully. The police car has been taken for forensic examination as the probe continues.

Community Mourns Devoted Father and Gentle Neighbour

The local community is reeling. Tributes describe Mr Bagnall as a “devoted father” and a “gentle, kind-hearted man.” Flowers and messages have appeared at the crash site, with a candlelight vigil planned this week.

“Roger was a lovely man who adored his children. It’s heartbreaking to know he lost his life in such a way,” said one neighbour.
