Man Shot Dead by Police in Surrey Village

A 29-year-old man has died after being shot by a police officer in Knaphill, Surrey. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a full probe into the incident.

Police Called to Armed Altercation Near Woking

The drama unfolded on Nursery Road in the early hours of Sunday, 11 August. Surrey Police responded after reports of an “altercation” between two men. One was said to be carrying a weapon and had barricaded himself inside a property.

Bodycam footage shows the man emerging, apparently pointing a weapon at officers. A firearms officer fired one shot, hitting him. Emergency first aid was given at the scene before the man was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Victim Dies Four Days After Police Shooting

Tragically, the man died on Thursday, 15 August. The IOPC recovered a non-police issue weapon at the scene and is now investigating how police handled the situation, including the use of lethal force.

“This is a tragic incident during which a man sadly lost his life. We have met with the man’s family to explain our role. Our thoughts are with them and everyone affected,” said IOPC regional director Mel Palmer.

Surrey Police Offer Condolences but Stress No Wider Threat

Surrey Police expressed sympathy for those affected. They confirmed the two men involved were known to each other and stressed there was no danger to the public.
