Sussex Police Crack Down on Anti-Social Behaviour in Newhaven
Sussex Police are stepping up to tackle a surge in anti-social behaviour around Gibbon Road, Newhaven. Officers have boosted their presence, patrolling visibly to spot trouble and keep the community safe.
Section 34 Dispersal Order Deployed
One key weapon in the police arsenal is the Section 34 Dispersal Order. This legal power, under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, lets officers send troublemakers packing to prevent harassment, alarm, or crime in the area.
The order was enforced for 48 hours starting 5pm on Saturday 8 July, covering Gibbon Road up to the A259 and westwards to Upper Valley Road.
Police Urge Public to Report Incidents
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “We urge the public to report any incidents to us so we can act swiftly. You can report crimes online or by calling 101. Always dial 999 in an emergency.”
Community Notes Police Presence
Local residents have noticed sporadic police patrols since the order was imposed. The Section 34 power is authorised only by inspectors or higher ranks and lasts a maximum of 48 hours in a targeted area – giving officers a temporary but powerful way to squash disorder.
