Tragic Attack in Peckham Rye Park
Kalabe Legesse, 29, was fatally stabbed just before 8.25pm on December 30 in Peckham Rye Park near Strakers Road. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their best efforts, Kalabe died at the spot.
Brutal Stab Wound to the Heart
A post-mortem revealed Kalabe died from a haemorrhage caused by a stab wound to the heart. His family and friends have been left devastated by the senseless attack.
“Kalabe’s death followed a brutal and senseless attack while he was simply sitting in the park, minding his own business,” said Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
Police Hunt Two Suspects on Bikes
Police believe two suspects fled the scene on pedal bikes towards Peckham Rye. Officers are urgently appealing for anyone who was near the café or playground around 8pm to come forward.

Metropolitan Police Continue Investigation
A Met Police spokesperson added: “Detectives investigating the murder continue to appeal for witnesses. Kalabe was found with a stab wound after officers were called at 8.24pm. His next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.”
