Body Found in Sandwich Waterway Sparks Emergency Response

Emergency Services Rush to Rope Walk

At 9.22am on Tuesday, Kent Fire and Rescue deployed a fire engine and officer to assist Kent Police at Rope Walk, Sandwich. The alarm was raised earlier when a road sweeper spotted a body in the water and reported it following a welfare concern call.

Coastguards Join Search Effort

Coastguards in drysuits were seen scouring the waters soon after 8.30am. A specialized search and rescue team from Deal also joined police in the operation. Meanwhile, part of Rope Walk remains cordoned off as investigations continue.

Man Pronounced Dead at the Scene

Kent Police confirmed the incident started with a call about a man in distress on Woodnesborough Road, Sandwich at 9am. Responding officers, alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue, found a man in his 50s who was sadly pronounced dead on site.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “The death is not currently being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner.”
