Late Night Drama on Isle of Wight as Police & Helicopter Launch Search Operation
Hampshire officers teamed up with the national air support helicopter for a dramatic overnight search in Shanklin and Sandown on the Isle of Wight. Three police cars and a van were spotted outside a property in the town after 12.30am on Monday.
One Hospitalised Amid Hostage Claims
The Isle of Wight ambulance service rushed one person to hospital following the incident. Meanwhile, a police dog and handler combed a road near Shanklin railway station for around 40 minutes. The search is believed linked to a disturbing event from Thursday in the Shanklin-Lake area.
Local claims suggest a man took a 31-year-old woman hostage in the vicinity, though police have yet to confirm details.
Police Helicopter Back for Second Morning Sweep
The NPAS helicopter returned at dawn for a second search over a holiday park, which was briefly sealed off while officers on the ground scanned the area. Police say they were guided by the aircraft throughout.
Hampshire Police Speak Out
“Officers have been conducting enquiries through the night in the Shanklin area as part of an investigation into allegations of threats to life. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing,” said Hampshire Constabulary.
The force confirmed the allegations relate to an older offence, not anything that happened overnight.
