Police Investigate Homophobic Assault in Kennington as Hate Crime

Metropolitan Police are investigating a homophobic assault that took place shortly after midnight in Kennington Road, SE1, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police were called at 00:01hrs on Friday, 28 March, following reports of an assault. Officers arrived at the scene and found a man in his 20s with a cut to his hand.

Victim Treated at Scene

Officers administered first aid at the scene. The victim did not require hospital treatment and his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.

Police confirmed the incident is being treated as a hate crime due to homophobic comments made during the attack.

No Arrests Yet – Appeal for Information

No arrests have been made at this stage, and enquiries are ongoing.

A Met Police spokesperson said:

“This assault is being treated as a hate crime due to the nature of comments made during the incident. We take reports of this kind extremely seriously and are working to identify those responsible.”
