Tragic Birkenhead House Fire Claims Young Boy’s Life
A devastating house fire in Birkenhead has claimed the life of an eight-year-old boy. Three others, who escaped by jumping from the top floor, remain hospitalised.
Early Morning Blaze on Keele Close
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) rushed to a two-storey semi-detached house on Keele Close, Beechwood Estate, in the early hours. They found several people had escaped the flames by leaping from first-floor windows.
Firefighters rescued the young boy from inside the burning house. Despite urgent aid from fire crews and paramedics, the schoolboy sadly passed away shortly after the rescue. The three others admitted to hospital have injuries described as not life-threatening.
Accidental Fire Confirmed
MFRS and Merseyside Police have launched an investigation. Early findings confirm the fire was accidental.
Community in Shock
The local area is in mourning. Flowers, balloons, and teddies have been left at the scene to remember the young victim.
Heartfelt Statements from Fire Chief
Chief Fire Officer Phil Garrigan, who attended the scene, said: “This has been a very tragic incident with an incredibly sad outcome despite the best efforts of my crews. Our thoughts are with the family, friends and loved ones of the young boy at this time.”
“We also recognise the impact on the local community and share our heartfelt condolences.”
Garrigan praised the swift work of his fire control team, firefighters, and the North West Ambulance Service colleagues who tirelessly tried to save lives.
Fire Safety Campaign to Follow
In response, MFRS will be conducting free home fire safety checks and offering essential fire safety advice to local residents in the coming days, aiming to prevent future tragedies.
