Major Fire Breaks Out at Surrey’s Famous Hankley Common

A massive blaze has forced fire services to declare a major incident at Hankley Common, a well-known beauty spot in Surrey. The fire, raging over at least eight hectares, has sparked serious concerns for locals and visitors.

Multiple Fire Engines Battle the Flames

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service rushed several fire engines to the scene after being alerted just after midday on Sunday. Crews are expected to stay on site until at least Monday as they fight the fast-spreading fire.

The blaze is generating thick smoke, prompting officials to warn residents to keep windows and doors closed and to keep pets indoors.

Warning to Avoid the Area as Fire Spreads Fast

Authorities have urged people to steer clear of Hankley Common. “Stay far away from the fire as it can travel quickly,” the fire service said.

Surrey Police are also assisting and have closed Thursley Road, which runs alongside the common, to protect the public.

Famous Film Location at Risk

Hankley Common isn’t just a local gem – it’s also a famous filming location for the James Bond blockbuster Skyfall. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but officials are urging people to be careful in the outdoors.

“Please help keep our outdoors safe: pack a picnic instead of a disposable BBQ and dispose of cigarettes correctly,” Surrey Fire Service appealed.
