Escaped Convict Butcher Snapped Up in Derbyshire Village
David Butcher, 55, was caught red-handed after turning himself in to police in the Derbyshire village of Swadlincote this morning at 11:39am. The escaped convict remains in custody, sparking relief across the region.
Escape from Boston’s HMP North Sea Camp
Butcher broke free from HMP North Sea Camp in Boston on May 31. He was serving a life sentence for aggravated burglary when he made his daring escape.
Another Arrest Made in Connection
A 56-year-old man was arrested last night on suspicion of assisting an offender linked to Butcher’s escape. He is currently held by police as inquiries continue.
Police Praise Public Support in Manhunt
“Following a round-the-clock investigation to bring Butcher into custody, I’m pleased to say that we have now apprehended this man,” said Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Rachael Cox. “At this time, we do not believe he has committed any additional offences.”
Detectives also thanked the public for their overwhelming support. Their swift action, alongside the hard work of officers, neighbouring forces, and partner agencies, was key to capturing the fugitive.
The hunt is over, but police remain vigilant as investigations into the escape deepen.
