Snow Set to Slam Scotland with Up to 10cm Overnight
The Met Office has blasted out a yellow weather warning as up to 10cm of snow is set to blanket parts of northern and central Scotland overnight. The warning covers 3am to 9am on Friday, threatening travel chaos across the region.
Scotland Braces for Wintry Weather
Areas in the firing line include Central Scotland, Tayside, Fife, Grampian, the Highlands, Eilean Siar, and Strathclyde. Snow will hit hardest on higher ground before easing off by mid-morning.
A Met Office spokesperson warned,
“Accumulating snow is expected mainly above approximately 200 meters, with temporary accumulations possible at lower levels during heavy showers. Elevations above 250 meters could see 2-5cm, with some spots at lower altitudes also affected. Above 300 meters, 10cm or more is likely.”
Rain and Wind Add to Stormy Forecast
As if snow wasn’t enough, a separate yellow alert is in place for heavy rain from 2am to 9am Friday across the Central Belt, hitting edinburgh/" title="Edinburgh" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Stirling. Rainfall could total 15-25mm, with some areas seeing up to 35mm overnight.
And the weekend won’t bring relief. Another yellow warning for wind covers 8am to 10pm Saturday. A deep low-pressure system will whip gusts up to 50mph across western Scotland, with coastal spots battered by 60-70mph winds and large waves.
