Burglary Boss Busted After Trying to Sell Stolen Bling
William Martin, 53, from Bedford, has been slammed with a hefty jail sentence after pinching a bike, mobile phone, and jewellery from a home in Foster Hill Road.
Burglar Caught Red-Handed
Martin was caught after cops tracked the stolen phone’s GPS. The phone popped up all over Bedford — including at Martin’s own gaff. Detectives also spotted him on CCTV trying to offload the stolen jewellery at local pawnshops.
Jail Time: Four Years and Counting
At Luton Crown Court, Martin pleaded guilty to burglary. He was handed four years and six months behind bars. He also got three concurrent three-month sentences for fraud.
“Martin is a prolific burglar and I’m glad he will spend time behind bars,” said Detective Constable Andy Boston from burglary squad Op Maze.
“I hope he reflects on his actions. This sentence sends a clear message: we won’t tolerate this in Bedfordshire.”
Police Warn Homes at Risk This Christmas
DC Boston warned homeowners to stay vigilant, especially with festive gifts lying around.
- Don’t leave presents under the tree in plain sight.
- Double-lock your doors, and for PVC-U multipoint locks, lift the handle and remove the key.
- When out, leave a light or radio on to make your home look lived-in.
“Opportunist thieves look for easy targets, especially before Christmas,” added DC Boston. “Stay safe and keep your valuables out of reach.”
