Christmas Boozy Drivers Busted: Nine Arrested in One Day!
Nottinghamshire Police are cracking down hard on drink and drug-driving this festive season as part of their no-nonsense ‘A Deadly Mix’ campaign. On Christmas Day alone, nine motorists were snapped for driving under the influence. Eight of them now face court, with another arrested for drink-driving on Boxing Day.
‘A Deadly Mix’ Hits the Roads
The campaign was launched after chilling stats revealed 263 people were injured or killed in drink-related crashes across Nottinghamshire between 2018 and 2020. To get the message across, over 2,000 posters and 5,000 beermats have been slapped up in pubs all over the county. Nottingham City Transport buses are also flashing hard-hitting warnings to drivers.
Officers have been out in force at roadshows in Nottingham’s Trinity Square, talking directly to the public about the deadly consequences of driving over the limit.
Police Warn: One Over the Limit Driver Is Too Many
“Just one drink or drug driver on Nottinghamshire’s roads is one too many,” said Inspector John Lees. “Our message is simple – drink and drug drivers will not be tolerated.”
“The decision to drive when over the limit takes just a split second, but the consequences last a lifetime. It can cause tragedy for innocent victims and their families,” he added.
“Those caught face more than just court – it could cost them their job, relationships, and freedom to drive.”
Grieving Wife Makes Emotional Plea
The campaign has the backing of Clair Osborne, who lost her husband in a drink-drive crash in 2021. The 48-year-old from Mansfield Woodhouse urges partygoers to plan their way home.
“If you’ve got work dos or Christmas parties planned – that’s the key word: planned. Plan your taxi, plan your lift,” Clair said. “If anyone tries to tempt you to drink and drive, just ask yourself: is it worth it?”
“I see what it’s done to my children every day because someone chose to drink-drive.”
