Knives Out at Maidstone Gambling Den! George and Thomas McRaye unleashed violence after being told to leave a gambling outlet for drinking booze on the premises without a licence. What started as a simple refusal ended in a terrifying knife attack!
Drink, Refuse, Attack
On Saturday 12 November 2022, the McRaye brothers rocked up to a gambling spot on Week Street, knocking back alcohol they’d brought in from elsewhere. Staff quickly told them to leave since the venue had no alcohol licence. When the pair refused, a security guard stepped in – but things quickly turned nasty.
Knife Slashes and Bar Stool Barrage
- Brothers became aggressive and pushed the guard.
- George whipped out a hefty kitchen knife and handed it to Thomas.
- Thomas lunged at the guard, slashing repeatedly.
- Meanwhile, George threw a bar stool at him.
- Thankfully, an associate stepped in and the violent duo fled towards King Street.
Quick Police Response and Arrest
Local police were swiftly alerted and caught up with the two near a taxi rank. Officers drew a Taser before arresting the violent pair. The deadly knife was later found in a nearby bin.
Justice Served: Prison Time for McRaye Brothers
Charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, plus possession of a knife and criminal damage (Thomas smashed a phone in holding), both men pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court.
On Monday 19 December, Thomas, 38, and George, 34, were sentenced to three years and four months behind bars.
“This was an extremely violent assault and it is only by chance that the security guard did not suffer serious, and potentially fatal, injuries,” said PC Alex Bagnall.
“Thomas and George McRaye thought nothing of arming themselves with a knife and attacking a man just doing his job. Anyone carrying knives in Maidstone is destined for custody – and these arrogant bullies proved that.”
