Teen Stabs Man After Nasty Town Centre Row in Oxted
A 16-year-old boy stabbed a man in the neck following a frightening disturbance in Oxted town centre. It all kicked off when a large group of youths caused chaos near Oxted train station in the early evening.
Group Hounds Woman, Violence Erupts
The gang followed a local woman walking home from the station, shouting at her. Her husband rushed outside to intervene but was punched repeatedly in the face by one of the youths. Then, shockingly, the defendant plunged a knife into the man’s neck before the group scattered.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
The injured couple sought help from station staff, who quickly called police and ambulance crews. A major manhunt was launched, with CCTV footage pinpointing the youths. Officers found the suspect’s knife nearby, and DNA on the weapon matched the 16-year-old.
After several attempts to find him, the teen surrendered to police and was immediately arrested. Despite refusing to comment, he was charged with attempted murder.
Serious Injuries and Tough Sentence
The victim suffered a deep, eight-inch cut stretching from just below his ear to his upper neck. The boy later pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Guildford Crown Court on June 28.
Detective Sergeant Lisa Betchley said: “I commend the bravery of the victim and his wife, who endured a terrifying ordeal. This sentence should send a clear warning: carrying a knife is never justified or worth it. If you carry a knife in Surrey, you will be caught and face justice.”
