Ex-ISIS Supporter Locked Up Again for Breaching Terror Laws
Adeel Ulhaq, once jailed for six years for helping a teen join ISIS, is back behind bars.
From Sutton in Ashfield, Ulhaq was convicted in February 2016 for assisting travel to Syria and funding terrorism. He broke UK terrorism laws under the Terrorism Act 2000 and 2006.
Failed to Declare Contact Details, Triggering New Charges
After release, Ulhaq faced strict rules under a Terrorist Notification Order. This meant he had to declare any new phone numbers, emails, or bank accounts to the police.
In November 2023, he was caught failing to declare multiple email addresses, phone numbers, and bank accounts. Ulhaq was charged with seven counts under the Counter Terrorism Act 2008 for failing to notify authorities.
Quick Return to Prison After Breach of Licence
Ulhaq was freed in April 2018 but was recalled just three days later for breaking parole conditions. He was released again in May 2019 with notification requirements set to last until April 2034.
Investigators from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands discovered his recent breaches.
Dug Up Evidence Shows Dangerous Interests
Police found that Ulhaq’s undeclared devices contained material on arms, ammunition, extremist groups, military training, policing, and the Prevent programme.
At nottingham/" title="Nottingham" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Nottingham Crown Court on Friday 31 May 2024, Ulhaq pleaded guilty to five breaches of his notification order and was sentenced to 33 months behind bars.
