Reckless Driver Caught After High-Speed Police Chase in Sheffield
Liam Wilkinson, from Southey Hall Road, Sheffield, faces a string of charges after a dangerous police chase. The 27-year-old was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, possession of an offensive weapon, carrying a knife in public, and possession of a Class C drug.
Wild Pursuit Across Sheffield Suburbs
On 15 May, officers spotted Wilkinson driving a Mitsubishi Outlander erratically in Firvale. After cutting off police on a roundabout, Wilkinson ignored police orders to stop. A high-speed chase kicked off, weaving through Southey, Parson Cross, Shiregreen, and Firth Park. Wilkinson reached terrifying speeds of 80mph on single carriageways and even drove on the wrong side of the road.
The chase ended on Rolleston Road where Wilkinson and his passenger bolted from the car. Both were arrested shortly after.
Stolen Car, Knives, and Drugs Discovered
Officers found a knife and suspected controlled drugs in the vehicle. Further checks revealed the Mitsubishi was stolen and uninsured. At Sheffield Crown Court on 27 November, Wilkinson pleaded guilty to all charges except vehicle theft.
“Dangerous driving poses a risk to everyone involved,” said PC Simon Morfitt. “Wilkinson put other road users in danger and this behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Eight Months Behind Bars and Driving Ban
Wilkinson was sentenced to eight months in prison and banned from driving for 18 months. He must also pass a driving retest before getting his licence back.
