Car Theft Kingpin Locked Up for Over Six Years After High-Speed Crime Spree
£140k Car Theft Spree Ends in Jail
Cody Lowndes, from Lakeside Avenue, Ashton-under-Lyne, was slammed with a six-year, two-month jail sentence at The Lowry Nightingale Court, Salford, on Monday 14 December. The 28-year-old was caught after a spree of high-value car thefts across Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Stalybridge, and Mottram, with the stolen vehicles valued at a whopping £140,000.
Stolen Motors Sold Online, Fugitive Caught After Dramatic Escape
All the stolen cars were flogged on social media, selling fast and furious. Police recovered four of the vehicles, but three remain missing. Lowndes shocked officers by escaping custody after being taken to hospital under arrest. He fled the scene and stayed on the run for 10 days before cops nabbed him at a Manchester hotel on 21 July.
Officer Speaks Out: “No Regard for the Law”
“We’re glad that Cody Lowndes has finally been put behind bars – the place he’s belonged for the last six months,” said Police Sergeant Peter Goddard of GMP’s Tameside division.
“He had no regard for the law, targeting innocent people and selling their stolen cars online – sometimes just hours after the thefts. His brazen escape from custody and online taunts showed he felt untouchable. Thankfully, he’s now off the streets and will have plenty of time to think about his actions.”
