Hythe Man Jailed for Spitting Coronavirus Threat
Guy Nougher, 62, has been sentenced to 21 months at Canterbury Crown Court for a terrifying Covid-related assault on Hythe High Street.
Outbreak Threat Turned Weapon
On Saturday 13 June 2020, Nougher was caught kicking the door of a building society. When a passerby told him to stop, the situation escalated dramatically.
Nougher threatened to punch the man, shoved him with a clenched fist, then chillingly declared, “I have got Covid.” He followed this by spitting in the victim’s face.
Positive TestIgnored, Victim Forced to Self-Isolate
Police later confirmed Nougher had tested positive for Covid-19 three days before the attack. Despite this, he left his home, breaching quarantine rules.
The victim was forced to self-isolate but thankfully tested negative for the virus.
Police React to Callous Crime
“Nougher should have been self-isolating at the time of this incident, following his positive test, but instead he went out and committed this callous offence,” said kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police Inspector James Wyles.
“The circumstances must have been extremely worrying for the victim and I hope our investigation, and the sentence which has been handed down, will give him a sense that justice has been done.”
