‘I’d kill you if I could get away with it’ – Southampton rapist jailed for 14 years
A Southampton man has been locked up for a brutal reign of terror that included rape, false imprisonment, and violent assaults.
Jack McRae’s 14-Year Prison Sentence
Jack McRae, 29, from Golden Grove, Southampton, was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on 17 June. He was found guilty of eight serious offences including:
- Rape of a woman aged 16 or older
- False imprisonment
- Four counts of assault causing actual bodily harm
- Two counts of criminal damage under £5,000
McRae received a 14-year prison term plus eight years on probation. He must also sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
Horrific Abuse Spanning Months
On 25 November 2020, McRae attacked a woman in her twenties in Southampton’s Itchen area, punching her repeatedly even after knocking her unconscious.
The other offences took place between October and November 2020 in the Mansbridge neighbourhood against a different woman, also in her twenties. The vile attacks included stabbing a sofa, cushion, and phone with a knife McRae carried, as well as punching, kicking, biting, and stabbing the victim.
During the assaults, he threatened, “If I could get away with killing you, I would.” He then raped the woman in November and locked her in her flat for a whole week.
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery
The victims reported the crimes to police on 28 November 2020 and have received specialist support since. Amanda Linden-Jones of Operation Amberstone, the lead investigator, praised the women for their courage.
“First and foremost, we commend the bravery of these women subjected to harrowing abuse at the hands of this monster. One victim said she thought she was going to die at the time. To come forward and help put him behind bars is truly inspiring,” said Linden-Jones.
She added: “This sentence sends a clear message – we will relentlessly pursue offenders and support victims to prevent violence against women.”
Speak Out If You’ve Been Affected
Police urge anyone with similar experiences to come forward. “From the moment you report, you will be treated with dignity and taken seriously,” officials said. Independent support groups are also available for confidential help.
