Man Jailed for Stabbing Ex-Partner’s Lover to Death at Pub Birthday Bash
Timothy Simon Found Guilty of Murder
Timothy Simon, 59, from Englefield Road, N1, was convicted on Friday, 24 March at Isleworth Crown Court for the murder of Wayne Phillips. Simon is set to be sentenced on 5 April.
Brutal Stab Attack Inside Uxbridge Road Pub
The shocking murder took place shortly before midnight on 23 July 2022. Police were called to a pub on Uxbridge Road, W13 after reports of a man stabbed inside. Officers and paramedics found 58-year-old Wayne Phillips with a fatal wound to his heart. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene just after midnight.
A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as blood loss from the stab wound.
Jealousy and Past Relationships Spark Deadly Fight
Wayne had arrived at the pub for a birthday party with two female friends. They entered carrying presents and greeting guests when Simon approached him. CCTV showed the pair briefly grappling before Simon pulled out a folding knife and stabbed Wayne in the chest.
The victim and attacker knew each other, but their connection was bitter. Simon previously dated Wayne’s long-term partner and couldn’t accept the breakup.
Detective Reacts to Verdict
“This was a senseless murder, committed out of insecurity,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson, who led the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigation. “Wayne Phillips’s loved ones remain devastated, even almost a year later. I’m glad justice has been served and hope the verdict brings them some comfort.”
Despite Simon’s claims at trial that the knife wasn’t his, CCTV reveals the chilling truth. “He could be seen making the stabbing motion with his right hand before extending the blade and fatally wounding Mr Phillips.”
