Man Found Guilty of Murdering Two Women in Sussex
A jury at Hove Crown Court has convicted 41-year-old Mark Brown of murdering 33-year-old Leah Ware and 34-year-old Alexandra Morgan. The grisly killings took place at a yard Brown rented at Little Bridge Farm in Westfield, near Hastings.
How Police Cracked the Case
Brown denied the murders, but after a complex 123-day trial, the evidence was overwhelming. Alex Morgan had met Brown through an adult services website. Detectives pieced together her movements on Sunday, 14 November via ANPR and CCTV footage, alongside her phone records, placing her at key locations linked to Brown’s activities.
Forensic odontologists confirmed remains found were those of Alex Morgan. Similarly, Leah Ware had last been seen in May 2021. Brown tried to cover up her absence by collecting her prescription medicines and withdrawing money from her bank account, all while telling friends she was either in hospital or had taken her own life.
Disturbing Details Emerge
Leah’s beloved Mastiff was rehomed by Brown, but the smaller bones recovered from land near Little Bridge Farm matched Leah’s Pomeranian. Despite no one hearing from Leah since early 2021, Brown maintained the illusion she was still alive.
Investigation Statement
No-body homicides are incredibly rare and difficult to prove,” said a spokesperson from Sussex Major Crime Team. Thanks to intensive detective work and close cooperation with kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, we built a strong case proving Brown’s guilt.
“Leah was a loving and trusting young woman, sadly exploited by Brown who used her dependence to devastating effect. While he may never explain why or how he killed her, we hope this conviction brings justice to Leah’s family and friends.”
Mark Brown was convicted on 1 December 2022 and is set to be sentenced soon at Hove Crown Court.
