Slough Man Jailed for Threatening MPs with Terrifying Emails
Wajid Shah, 27, from Connaught Road, Slough, has been jailed for two years following a Southwark Crown Court verdict. The six-day trial ended on 6 October, but Shah didn’t face the music until 20 November. He was found guilty of sending threatening emails to current and former MPs.
Six Counts of Threatening Messages
Between 27 March and 11 April 2019, Shah bombarded MPs with emails designed to cause fear and distress. All six charges relate to these malicious communications sent under the Malicious Communications Act 1988. His threats were so severe one building had to be evacuated.
Arrested Twice After Relentless Abuse
Police first cuffed Shah on 30 March 2019. That didn’t stop him. After continuing his vile attacks, he was arrested again on 15 April. Charged on 18 September 2019, he finally faced justice over half a year later.
Police Slam Shah’s Shocking Abuse
“The nature of the messages Shah sent were horrendous, causing significant anxiety and distress,” said Detective Inspector Will Crowther from Slough Police station. “Even after his first arrest, he kept threatening serious violence and death. The messages are too violent to detail but caused tremendous upset.”
“MPs should never be targeted like this. Shah thought he could hide behind a keyboard, but emails can be traced. Thames Valley Police won’t tolerate these threats and will prosecute offenders.”
“I hope this sentence gives victims some solace. Anyone thinking they can threaten others online should think again—they will be caught and jailed.”
