Brutal Rapist Sentenced to 10 Years After Knife Attack and Sexual Assaults
Knife Assault Leads to Hospital Visit
Afzul Miah, 42, of Victoria Avenue, E6, was slammed with a 10-year jail term at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, 9 September. He was convicted of rape, grievous bodily harm, three counts of actual bodily harm, and two counts of common assault.
On 4 March 2020, Miah stabbed the victim, cutting her hand badly enough to need hospital treatment. Disturbingly, he pressured her to lie about how she got the injury when they went to A&E together.
Horrific Sexual Attacks Over Five Days
Between 8 and 11 March 2021, Miah ramped up the violence—sexually assaulting and raping the victim. She finally escaped to a nearby shop where staff immediately called the police.
Justice Served
Miah, who pleaded not guilty back in January, was also slapped with a restraining order and placed on the sex offenders register.
Police Crackdown on Sexual Violence
DI Jeremy McDermott from the Met’s North East Safeguarding team said: “Miah’s actions were sadistically cruel and manipulative and were a threat to women. He has now faced justice for his crimes, which will sadly leave a lasting impact on the victim and her family.
“Rape, abuse and sexual offences are inexcusably horrific crimes. I would urge any victims to please talk to us and report it. We have specially trained officers who work closely with partner organisations to provide the right support. Please do not suffer in silence, because we are here to help.
“We will always do everything we possibly can to bring offenders to justice, just as we have done in this case.”
The victim is currently receiving support from specialist officers to help her recover from this traumatic ordeal.
