Stevenage Killer Jailed for Life Over Prom Night Stabbing
Patrick Sharp-Meade, 20, from Cutty’s Lane, Stevenage, has been locked up for life at Luton Crown Court. He must serve a minimum of 28 years before parole is considered.
Brutal Fatal Stabbing After School Prom
On May 27, 2022, Kajetan Migdal and three pals were changing clothes by Kajetan’s car in Cutty’s Lane after their school prom at St John Henry Newman School. They planned to hit Cambridge for the rest of the night.
Sharp-Meade, masked with a balaclava and armed with a large zombie knife hidden down his trousers, confronted the group. Believing they had been speaking to his ex-girlfriend on the phone earlier, he singled out Kajetan. After asking if Kajetan was “from these ends,” Sharp-Meade viciously stabbed him in the heart. Kajetan died the following morning in hospital.
Stranger Danger: Victims Did Not Know Killer
Kajetan and his friends had never met Sharp-Meade and didn’t know his ex-girlfriend, making the attack utterly unprovoked.
Swift Arrest and Sentencing
After the stabbing, Sharp-Meade returned to his flat and hid the knife in his mattress before police tracked and arrested him promptly.
He pleaded guilty to carrying the knife and possessing a small amount of cocaine discovered in his shoe but denied murder. A jury took just over 24 hours to find him guilty of murder.
Judge John Hillen said at sentencing: “Kajetan Migdal was 18 years old when you killed him. He was a remarkable young man – larger than life, talkative, a talented dancer who appeared on national TV, and a bright student about to take a gap year before university.”
“Nearly 1,000 people attended his funeral, a testament to the loss felt by so many. The knife you used was designed to kill and maim. You have shown yourself to be manipulative and cunning.”
Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins added: “I hope Sharp-Meade uses his time to reflect on his actions and their devastating impact. Our thoughts are with Kajetan’s family, who have shown incredible strength throughout this ordeal.”
Kajetan’s promising life was tragically cut short in a brutal act of violence. Sharp-Meade will spend decades behind bars for this merciless crime.
