A man has been sentenced to two years in prison for harassing and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl on a train

Train Predator Locked Up for Sex Attack on Teen Girl

William Roberts, 28, from Thornton Heath, has been slammed with a 24-month jail sentence after sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl on a train.

Sexual Assault on Oxford to Princes Risborough Train

On December 9, 2020, at around 6.20pm, the victim was travelling home when she stepped in to help a passenger who became ill. After the passenger left the train at Bicester, Roberts, sitting in the same carriage, started bombarding the girl with demands for her phone number. She repeatedly refused, telling him she was just 16 and not interested.

Predator Refuses to Back Off

Ignoring her clear discomfort, Roberts sat next to her and then sexually assaulted her. When she tried to flee, he blocked her path and attempted to assault her again. The victim bravely pushed him away and escaped.

Justice Served After Swift Police Action

Roberts was arrested at his home on January 6, 2020. He claimed he was just having a “nice” chat with the girl, but the evidence said otherwise. At Reading Crown Court on June 20, Roberts was sentenced to two years in prison and must sign the sex offender register for ten years.

“It’s clear from Roberts’ persistent actions that he is a danger to women,” said BTP Detective Constable James Egley. “I’m pleased to see him off the network and behind bars.”

“This was a truly distressing incident for the victim, who has shown incredible bravery in coming forward and telling her story.”

“No one should feel threatened while using the railway, and we are committed to prosecuting sexual offenders.”
