Scissors-wielding man sparks arrest in Grimsby
Jamie Forbes, 43, from South Killingholme, was slapped with a 10-week jail term after admitting assault for coughing in a cop’s face. The incident happened on Sunday, 6 December, in Cope Street, Grimsby.
Forbes approached two plainclothes officers asking for directions while holding a pair of scissors. When the officers revealed themselves and asked why he had the blades, Forbes shrugged, saying: “Everyone’s carrying a blade these days.” Fearing a threat, the police arrested him.
‘Covid cough’ attack on officer lands thug behind bars
During the arrest, as one officer helped Forbes adjust his seatbelt in the police car, Forbes deliberately coughed in the officer’s face while saying “covid”. This vile act during a pandemic put everyone at risk and sparked outrage.
Chief Constable condemns disgusting assault
Chief Constable Lee Freeman said: “I find it unbelievable that during these worrying and unprecedented times some people choose to behave in this way towards police officers simply doing their job to protect the public.”
“Spitting or coughing at someone is completely unacceptable. The added risks from Covid-19 make it even worse.”
“We will never tolerate this behaviour and will always prosecute offenders who assault emergency workers exposing themselves daily to protect us all.”
This harsh sentence sends a clear message: Covid cough assaults on law enforcement will be met with zero tolerance.
