Driver Sentenced to 10 Years Over Tragic Fatal Crash

Cameron Jones, 30, from Swansea Road, Merthyr Tydfil, has been handed a decade behind bars and banned from driving for 10 years. The sentence follows a devastating collision on April 5 that claimed the life of 25-year-old Demi Mabbitt from Aberfan.

Audi Smashes into Garden Wall – Woman Dies at Scene

Jones was driving an Audi along Swansea Road when he crashed into a garden wall. Demi Mabbitt suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Shockingly, Jones fled the scene and stayed on the run for three weeks before his arrest.

Man Charged With Causing Death by Dangerous Driving

Jones faces multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, driving unlicensed and uninsured, failing to stop or report the crash, and doing so while disqualified.

Detective Sergeant Hobrough, Serious Collision Investigation Officer, said: “Demi Mabbitt lay dying on the side of the road when Jones callously fled without offering help. Her tragic death shocked the entire community. His attempts to escape justice have failed. Today’s sentence ensures Jones will be behind bars and unable to harm anyone else.”

Family Mourns ‘Kindest’ Demi

After the sentencing, Demi’s family spoke out about their heartbreaking loss:

“Today has been another difficult step on our journey through this devastating loss. No sentence will ever bring justice for our beautiful girl. Demi was only 25, with her whole life ahead of her. She was kind-hearted, selfless, with the biggest smile and an infectious laugh. Demi was her mum’s best friend, her dad’s pride, and the boss of her siblings. Her nieces and nephews were her world, and nothing was ever too much trouble for her. Our family is broken. We thank South Wales Police and especially family liaison officer PC Saunders for their support and compassion during this unimaginably tough time. We love you, Dems, forever and always.”
