Violent thug jailed after kicking and head-butting Rochford cops
A 26-year-old man who launched a brutal attack on police officers in Rochford has landed behind bars. Robert Hunter, with no fixed address, was locked up for 12 months after savagely kicking one officer and head-butting another.
Brutal assault caught on police response
The violent incident erupted around 4.30pm on Wednesday 15 April in the Boulevard area. Officers responded to reports of a disturbance, only to face aggression from Hunter. One officer was kicked hard in the chest. When handcuffing Hunter, he head-butted a second officer.
History of violence and knife possession
Hunter appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on 16 April. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting emergency workers and using threatening behaviour. He also breached previous suspended sentences handed down in September 2019 related to assaulting emergency workers, knife possession, theft, and threatening conduct.
Besides his 12-month prison sentence, Hunter was slapped with a year-long restraining order.
Chief Inspector David Miles, District Commander for Castle Point and Rochford, blasted the attacker: “Attacks on my officers will not be tolerated. Hunter clearly has a disrespect for the law, having previously received a sentence for two other attacks on police officers.
“Fortunately, neither officer required hospital treatment and were able to continue their shifts. I hope this outcome offers some form of justice to them and acts as a reminder that you face time in prison for assaulting my officers.”
