Fake Cop Jailed for Bizarre Arrest Attempt in Barrow
Man Dresses as Police, Tries to Nab Woman in Car Park
Gary Shepherd, 44, pulled a shocking stunt by impersonating a police officer in Barrow. Clad with a lanyard boldly printed with “police,” he approached a woman in the Greengate car park on Tuesday evening, claiming he was arresting her for drug dealing.
Victim Sees Through the Ruse, Calls Bluff with Help
The woman wasn’t fooled. With the aid of a passer-by, she challenged Shepherd’s fake arrest attempt. Realising he’d been caught out, Shepherd made a run for it but was soon tracked down and arrested later that same night.
Quick Justice at Barrow Magistrates’ Court
At Barrow Magistrates’ Court, Shepherd admitted to impersonating a police officer. He was promptly jailed for 22 weeks — a sharp reminder that playing cop can land you in proper trouble.
Cumbria Police confirmed the incident happened around 6.30pm and praised the woman’s vigilance in not falling for the imposter’s act.
