Knife-Wielding Robber Targets Girls in East Sussex Woods
On 15 October 2022, Luke Slater approached a group of young girls near Ethelbert Road, East Sussex, asking for the time. When one girl pulled out her phone to check, Slater brandished a knife and threatened them. He snatched phones from two victims and chased down a third girl who tried to escape, stealing her phone, cash, and a ring.
Slater Faces Multiple Charges and Jail Time
The terrifying incident was quickly reported, leading to Slater’s identification and arrest. He was charged with three robberies alongside six counts of shop theft from locations on City Way, Delce Road, and the High Street between 5 and 21 October.
Slater pleaded guilty and must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before parole. Upon release, he will remain on licence for a further four years.
Detective Condemns Slater’s “Despicable” Attacks
“Slater is a violent criminal who thought nothing of making violent threats to steal other people’s property. The robbery he committed on three young girls was truly despicable and cowardly. He should be thoroughly ashamed of his actions,” said Detective Constable Matthew Wadhams of the Kent Crime Squad.
“In complete contrast, his young victims showed considerable courage in assisting our investigation and providing evidence for the subsequent trial. Their role was key to ensuring this prolific offender is no longer a danger to the residents of Medway.”
