Child Sex Offender Caught Hiding in Lorry at Dover
Mezbaha Uddin, 39, was nabbed by the National Crime Agency at Dover after trying to sneak into France hidden in a lorry. The Sutton-in-Ashfield man was already under investigation by Nottinghamshire Police for multiple offences spanning from 2018 to 2020.
Jury Finds Uddin Guilty of 16 Sex Offences Against Children
The jury convicted Uddin of 16 child sexual offences, including 10 counts of trying to engage in sexual communication with children and six counts of inciting children to take part in sexual activity. Sentencing will be announced at a later date by Canterbury Crown Court.
Undercover Sting Exposes Shocking Crimes
His arrest stemmed from a 2019 allegation involving sexual communication with a child in Nottinghamshire. Uddin fell into a trap set by an online child protection group using a decoy account. He sent indecent images of himself and arranged to meet who he believed was a 14-year-old girl in Mansfield.
Police seized his phone and uncovered messages revealing Uddin tried to sexually engage with more than a dozen underage girls, some meetings planned face-to-face. In other chilling instances, he encouraged girls to engage in sexual acts while he watched.
Police Praise Verdict, Vow to Protect Children
“This was a complex and disturbing investigation,” said Detective Constable Stuart Dolby of Nottinghamshire Police. “I am pleased with the verdicts and hope they send a clear message that we will do everything to tackle these crimes and protect the most vulnerable.” “Child sex offences are taken incredibly seriously, and catching offenders remains our top priority. No child should ever suffer these crimes.”
