Woman Jailed After Gun Found Hidden Behind Oven
A 37-year-old woman has been handed a nine-month prison sentence after police uncovered a gun secreted behind her oven. The discovery came during a search at her Bulwell home on Muriel Street at 10.30am on November 11, 2019.
Shotgun Stashed in Secret Compartment
Officers noticed Hannah Howley’s nervous behaviour when they searched a cupboard beside the oven. Removing the oven, they found a concealed wooden box containing a dismantled double-barreled shotgun, cartridges, and cleaning gear.
Guilty Plea Lands Howley Behind Bars
Howley was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on August 20, 2020.
Detective Inspector Ruby Burrow said: “Howley admitted owning this firearm and so knew she was breaking the law by doing so. It is our belief that she was storing it to incite fear into other members of the public. We will not tolerate firearms offences in Nottinghamshire and those found to be committing these offences will be put before the courts at the earliest opportunity.”
