Nightclub Nightmare in York: Asylum Seeker Jailed for Rape
An Egyptian asylum seeker has been locked up for eight years after brutally raping a woman outside a York nightclub. Eid Anwar Fathi Najjar, 21, preyed on the victim in a chilling attack that has left her traumatised.
Warning Ignored as Victim Left Vulnerable
The victim was “zombie-like” drunk when she met Najjar at Vudu Lounge in York city centre. Staff spotted her wobbly state and warned Najjar to stay away. He promised to leave her alone but sneaked off with her near Shambles Market while the bouncers were distracted.
Passers-by later found her distressed, missing trousers and underwear, unable to recall the assault right away. The victim finally came forward and reported the horrific attack.
Eight Years Inside After U-Turn Guilty Plea
- Najjar denied the charges initially but pleaded guilty during the trial.
- He was sentenced to eight years at York Crown Court.
- The attack happened last July after the victim got separated from friends.
- Najjar was arrested quickly and remains behind bars.
- Another suspect was cleared of all wrongdoing.
Refugee Fears Return to Egypt, Wants UK Jail Time
Although Najjar has no past convictions, he claimed he believed the encounter was consensual before realising it wasn’t. His defence described the case as “complicated, emotional, and unpleasant.”
Najjar is actively seeking asylum and begged the court to let him serve his sentence in the UK — fearing harsh punishment if sent back to Egypt.
Meanwhile, the victim is haunted by nightmares and has yet to tell her parents what happened.
