Gang in Dock for Foiled Murder Plot Linked to Chris Kaba Case
A gang of men faced the Old Bailey accused of plotting to murder a young man alongside Chris Kaba. The chilling plot ties back to a shooting on Hackney Road, Tower Hamlets, East London, on August 30 last year, where the intended victim escaped unharmed.
Six Men Charged Over Murder Plot and Firearms Offences
Chris Kaba himself was fatally shot six days later, on September 5, 2022, by an armed police officer in Streatham Hill, South London. Meanwhile, Shemiah Bell, Hamza Abdi, Connel Bamgboye, and Simeon link="linked">Glasgow appeared via video link from Thameside and High Down prisons on Friday, charged with conspiring with Kaba to kill Brendon Malutshi.
Marcus Pottinger, 20, from Brixton, and Carl Tagoe, 28, with no fixed address, were not required to attend the hearing but stand accused alongside the others. The men are charged with planning to murder Malutshi, conspiring to cause him physical harm, possessing a firearm to endanger life, and inciting fear of violence on Hackney Road.
New Charges and Upcoming Court Dates
Abdi was hit with an extra charge today (April 21) for allegedly helping an offender escape the shooting scene by driving him away in a Range Rover, obstructing justice while knowing the individual was guilty of attempted murder or another serious offence.
Pottinger faces additional firearms charges from December 16 last year after being accused of carrying a .32 Rimfire Calibre Revolver in Streatham with intent to intimidate.
Judge Simon Mayo KC confirmed a plea hearing will take place on May 2, with a preliminary trial set for November 13. Bell, 31, of Lambeth; Abdi, 23, of Wandsworth; Bamgboye, 28, of Lambeth; and Glasgow, 30, also of Lambeth, remain in custody.
Chris Kaba’s Family Demand Justice as Police Probe Ends
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) wrapped up its homicide investigation into Chris Kaba’s death last month. They’ve passed evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, who are now urged by Kaba’s family to charge the suspended officer, currently under investigation for murder.
Helen Lumuanganu, Kaba’s mother, declared: “Enough is enough. We demand justice and answers.”
