Cop Seriously Hurt in West Croydon Stop
Violent Attack Shocks West Croydon
A police officer suffered serious injuries after being attacked during a stop on Station Road, West Croydon, at around 5:56pm on Wednesday, 7 May. Officers had been alerted to suspicious behaviour when the situation suddenly turned violent.
Despite the officer’s injuries not being life-threatening or life-changing, they required immediate medical attention following the assault.
Suspect Tasered and Arrested at the Scene
The suspect, 27-year-old Asif Ahmadziy from South Road, Birmingham, was tasered to prevent further harm and promptly arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH).
Man Charged and Appears in Court
Ahmadziy was charged with GBH the same evening and appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court the following day. Police continue to support the injured officer as they recover from the attack.
Met Police Demand Tougher Sentences
“Our officers responded swiftly to a report of suspicious behaviour. Unfortunately, one officer was seriously assaulted while carrying out his duty. We are supporting our colleague as they recover,” a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.
The incident has reignited concerns about rising violence against emergency workers. Calls are growing for stronger protections and tougher sentences to safeguard those who put their lives on the line every day.
