A Derbyshire man has been slapped with a brutal 24-year jail sentence for sexually abusing two children, Derbyshire Police revealed.

Mark Kearney’s Fall from Grace

Mark Kearney, 55, was arrested in November 2024 after abuse reports came to light. He faced shocking charges including rape of a child under 13, assault by penetration, incitement to sexual activity, and forcing children to watch sexual images.

Kearney denied all allegations, but at Derby Crown Court in April 2025, he was found guilty on all counts.

Heavy Sentence and Lifetime Police Registration

On 26 February 2026, Kearney—who has no fixed address—was locked up for 24 years. He will also serve an additional six years on extended licence once released. Plus, he must register with the police for life.

Police Praise the Victims’ Bravery

Detective Constable Danielle Lynch said: “This has been an incredibly distressing case, and I want to commend the courage shown by both victims in coming forward and supporting the investigation.”
