Huge Blow to Gun Smugglers at Dover as 55 Loaded Glocks Seized
Massive Firearms Haul Found Hidden in Van
Border Force officers stopped a major firearms smuggling attempt at Dover port late Wednesday. They discovered an astonishing 55 loaded Glock 19 pistols and 500 rounds of live ammunition stashed inside the spare tyres of a Mercedes Sprinter van.
The driver, 58-year-old Petar Velikov Petrov from Varna, Bulgaria, was caught red-handed trying to sneak this lethal cargo into the UK.
Smuggler Charged and Ordered to Court
Petar Petrov now faces serious firearm smuggling charges. He appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he was formally charged over the massive weapons haul.
Officials Hail Teamwork for Stopping Threat
Tracey Gasson, NCA Operations Manager, said: “This is a massive haul of illegal firearms and ammunition. Thanks to brilliant detection, significant harm has been prevented.”
She added that while the UK has one of the lowest rates of gun crime worldwide, criminal demand for weapons remains high.
Ian Hanson, Border Force Director for South East and Europe, vowed: “We are committed to stopping lethal firearms entering the country and will work tirelessly to keep the public safe and borders secure.”
