Firefighters Rescue Exotic Pets from Smoke-Filled Home
Crews rushed to a blaze at 7.19pm after a neighbour called 999, alarmed by a smoke alarm going off. When firefighters arrived, the house was thick with smoke, and they feared people were trapped inside.
Heroic Search Saves Lizards and Snakes
Firefighters launched a full search and managed to rescue two snakes, two geckos, and two other pets. Sadly, two budgies didn’t survive the fire. Fortunately, the residents were out for the evening and safe.
Cause of Fire Likely Electrical or Smoking Related
Investigations suggest the fire was sparked by either an unattended electrical charger or discarded smoking materials.
Fire Chief Praises Team’s Bravery and Calls for Safety
Watch Manager Howard Midwood said: “Initially we thought there were people trapped, but thanks to the bravery and skill of the crew entering the premises and the information we received from the control room, we could confirm no one was in the property. The control room team really are the unsung heroes of our Service. They do a great job.”
He added, “I would like to remind people not to leave items charging unattended and to dispose of smoking materials properly.”
