The usually quiet Waterlooville was thrown into shock after the body of 37-year-old recruitment agent Joanna Derkacz was found dead at a home on Nevinson Way on December 28. Hampshire police quickly launched a murder inquiry, sending ripples through the tight-knit community.

Friends and Family Mourn a Bright Spark

Joanna was known as a beacon of positivity, admired for her infectious energy and warmth. Friends and colleagues, many from the Polish community, gathered in grief to pay tribute to the vibrant woman whose life ended far too soon.

“I am lucky to have known Jo not only as a colleague but a very good friend,” said Viola Signejeva. “She has always been a source of positivity, energy, and enthusiasm. It’s too early for her. Rest in peace, Jo. I miss you.”

“I can’t imagine I will never see you again. Nothing will ever be the same without you here… Goodbye, Sunshine,” mourned close friend Aniya Malkosz.

“You were lovely and I will miss you. I remember your smile on my face,” added Bartosz Baran.

Police Launch Full Investigation

On December 28 at around 11:30 a.m., Hampshire Constabulary responded to a call at the Nevinson Way property. A heavy police and forensic presence transformed the cul-de-sac into a major crime scene. Two white BMW cars from the address were taken for DNA analysis as detectives search for answers in this suspicious death.

Chief Inspector Habib Rahman reassured the community: “This is a concerning incident for the local community, but we do not believe there is any risk to the public. Officers will maintain a visible presence to address concerns.”
