Mum Charged Over Tragic Deaths of Two Young Brothers in Dagenham
Kara Alexander, 44, was charged at the Old Bailey on Thursday morning over the heartbreaking deaths of her two sons, Marley Thomas, five, and Elijah Thomas, two. The boys were found dead in their Dagenham home, with police suspecting suffocation or drowning, though full post-mortem results are still pending.
Disturbing Timeline Unfolds
The boys were last seen alive on the afternoon of December 15, captured on CCTV with their mother. The following day, at around 2 p.m., their father, Selvin Thomas, grew worried and called 999 after failing to contact them.
He forced his way into the house and was initially told the children were asleep upstairs. But when he went to check on them, he found the boys cold and obviously deceased. Emergency services were called and confirmed the tragic deaths.
Police Move Quickly, Mother Arrested Nearby
Officers swiftly arrested Kara Alexander in a neighbouring garden. At court, prosecutor Philip Evans KC said: “Preliminary findings indicate the normal mechanics of breathing were interfered with, which could include smothering and drowning.”
Legal Proceedings Set
- A plea hearing is scheduled for March 9, 2019.
- A preliminary trial date has been set for July 10 next year.
Alexander remains in custody as the investigation continues. The community in Dagenham has been left reeling by this tragic case.
