Curant was arrested four days after the incident, on January 20. He pleaded guilty to Leila’s murder on June 21. His sentencing is set for August, where he faces a mandatory life sentence.

The local community has rallied in grief. At the Penhill Road scene, candles, flowers, and heartfelt notes have been left in memory of Leila. One tribute read, “So heart breaking. I am so sorry this has happened to you. Sleep tight and may you rest in peace.”
