Brutal Stabbing Leaves Man Dead in Scarborough
A savage knife attack in Scarborough claimed the life of Solomon Robinson in the early hours of Sunday, 20 October 2019. Five men—Stefan Selvage, 19, Dawid Goral, 21, Callon Brass, 22, Kieran Watkinson, 19, and Stevie Low, 23—jointly stabbed Robinson on St Nicholas Street before fleeing the scene.
Robinson was rushed to hospital with a catastrophic 11-inch stab wound to his back but died around three hours later. The stabbing was fatal and un-survivable.
Swift Police Action Leads to Life Sentences
North Yorkshire Police acted fast, making arrests within hours. All five were charged with murder. Selvage admitted murder the day before the trial and was jailed for life, with a minimum 15-year term.
The other four denied murder, but a Leeds Crown Court jury found them guilty after a four-week trial. They were all handed life sentences on Friday, 19 February.
Detective Slams ‘Cowardly’ Attackers
“This was an appalling act of premeditated violence… Their actions were cowardly and cold, and they have proven themselves to be dangerous individuals who have rightly been taken off our streets,” said Detective Superintendent Fran Naughton, lead investigator.
“We won’t tolerate violence and will use every tactic to bring offenders to justice. Thanks to Scarborough Borough Council CCTV operators and witnesses for their vital roles in this case.”
“The sentence should send a strong message: carrying a knife or being involved in such violence makes you responsible for the consequences.”
Shocking Evidence Shown in Court
During the trial, Snapchat videos showed the group partying hours before the attack with drugs, knives, and large sums of cash visible. CCTV footage captured the gang walking through town and then attacking Robinson near the town hall.
Several shadowy figures fought in the dark with knives drawn. Robinson was seen staggering before collapsing. Emergency services arrived within two minutes but could not save him.
Family Devastated as Justice Is Served
Robinson’s mother read a heartbreaking victim impact statement: “Solomon’s death has destroyed my family…our souls are crushed and I doubt we will ever be the same again.” She described the agony of hearing her son’s final moments during the trial.
One of Solomon’s sisters paid tribute, calling him “a heart of gold who would help others before himself.” She expressed hope that the life sentences would bring some light to their pain and aid their healing.

- Stefan Selvage (Colescliffe Road): Life, minimum 15 years
- Kieran Watkinson (Endcliff Crescent): Life, minimum 18 years
- Callon Brass (Eastborough): Life, minimum 21 years
- Dawid Goral (Durham Street): Life, minimum 21 years
- Stevie Low (Longwestgate): Life, minimum 23 years + 3.5 years for Class A drug offences (concurrent)
The offenders start their sentences, minus time served on remand, ranging between 460 and 486 days.
