Racist Thug Jailed for Assault on Police and Damaging Patrol Car
Steven Benfield Banged Up for 36 Weeks
Steven Benfield, 30, currently homeless, has been locked up for 36 weeks at Liverpool Magistrates Court. He admitted racially aggravated public order offences, assaulting a police officer, and smashing a police vehicle.
The sentence came down on Friday, June 17, along with a £154 fine covering court costs and a victim surcharge.
Violent Outburst During Arrest
The chaos kicked off at a house on June 15 when officers were called to a domestic disturbance. As Benfield was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence (Section 39), he unleashed a torrent of racial abuse, spat at officers, and physically attacked them.
Police Praise Court for Tough Action
Community Policing Inspector Mark Berry said: “We are pleased that the courts dealt with Steven Benfield’s racially charged and violent behaviour.”
He added: “Our officers risk their lives daily to keep the public safe and should never have to face violence while doing their job. Assaults on police and emergency workers are utterly unacceptable.”
Berry finished with a powerful warning: “Remember, those who attack police might one day need our help too.”
