Ex-Lancing College Teacher Convicted of Child Sex Crimes

Nick Baldock, 46, a former teacher at Lancing College in West Sussex, has been found guilty of multiple child sex offences and illegally sharing pupils’ personal data.

Sexual Assault and Disturbing Messages Exposed

In July 2022, Baldock indecently touched a teenage student. He then contacted the victim, pretending to apologise, but shockingly made inappropriate sexual remarks about younger boys instead.

After his arrest, investigators uncovered disturbing evidence on his devices, including Category A indecent images of children — the most severe kind. Fortunately, none involved current or former Lancing pupils. Messages on the Telegram app revealed Baldock’s troubling sexual interest in boys aged 13 to 17.

Illegal Sharing of Pupils’ Photos

Further investigation showed Baldock had sent non-indecent images of boys to like-minded individuals. Some photos were stolen from the school’s database, resulting in charges for knowingly disclosing personal data without consent.

Multiple Charges and Next Steps

  • Sexual assault
  • Two counts of publishing obscene articles
  • Three counts of unlawfully sharing personal data linked to six pupils
  • Three counts of making indecent photographs of a child

These offences date from August 2021 to December 2022.

On August 30, Baldock pleaded guilty to all charges at Crawley Magistrates’ Court. Released on conditional bail, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register. Sentencing is set for September 27.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery, Community Left Reeling

“Nick Baldock betrayed the trust of his victims, their families, and the school community by abusing his position to pursue his sick interests,” said Detective Sergeant Paul Hitchcock of Sussex Police’s Online Child Abuse Team. “Thanks to the victim’s bravery in reporting the assault, we uncovered the full extent of Baldock’s crimes. Lancing College has also been very supportive throughout the investigation.”

The case has devastated the local community, with many shocked by the betrayal of someone in such a respected role. The school promises full cooperation with the ongoing investigation and commits to supporting its pupils’ welfare.
