Isle of Wight Police Crack Down on Speeding with Sharp Drop in Offenders
Speed Thrills, But Police Are Hunting Speeders
The Isle of Wight Police have revealed their latest crackdown on speeding, as part of ongoing efforts to make the island’s roads safer. Their Safer Roads Unit hit 20 locations on 30 separate occasions in December to catch reckless drivers.
Only 58 drivers were caught speeding last month — a spectacular drop from November’s whopping 167. The officers clearly mean business.
Operation Holly Targets Deadly Driving Habits
The Safer Roads Unit works within the Joint Operations Unit (JOU), covering Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and Thames Valley. They tackle the “Fatal Four” killers on the roads: speeding, mobile phone use, no seatbelt, and drink or drug driving.
Last December, the JOU launched Operation Holly, cracking down specifically on drink and drug-impaired drivers to save lives.
Police Plea: Spot Speeders? Report Them!
Police urge the public to report dangerous driving to help zero in on problem spots. Calls can be made via 101 or through the police website.
While not every tip leads to an immediate bust, the intel helps deploy special teams — from Roads Policing Units to Armed Response officers — all working under Operation Mile to keep roads safe for everyone.
