Isle of Wight Salvation Army Paedophile Jailed for Ten Years in Tennessee
Roy Williams, 53, a former Salvation Army sergeant from Newport, Isle of Wight, has been locked up for 10 years after flying to the US to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex. The disgraced volunteer’s twisted plan was uncovered before it could be realised.
Transatlantic Grooming Plot Busted
In June, Williams hopped on a plane and crossed the Atlantic after grooming the teenage girl online for months. Court heard he coaxed the youngster through texts and messages, trying to persuade her to take part in acts amounting to aggravated statutory rape.
Mother’s Quick Thinking Leads to Arrest
The sick plot was foiled when the girl’s mum spotted suspicious messages on her phone and alerted US authorities. Williams was quickly arrested and faced court.
Salvation Army Acts Swiftly
Upon learning of the charges on 3rd August last year, the Salvation Army wasted no time kicking Williams out. The organisation acted fast to cut ties with the predator.
Jailed and Facing Deportation
Williams admitted his crime in court back in March. He was sentenced this week to 10 years behind bars, followed by 10 years’ probation. Upon release, he faces likely deportation back to the UK, where he will be forced to register as a sex offender.
“Justice has been served,” a spokesman said. “This verdict sends a clear message: predators will be caught and punished.”
