Sheffron Powell, 33, from Chislehurst, was slammed with a two-year-three-month jail term at the Old Bailey last Wednesday, September 24. Powell pleaded guilty to stalking and terrifying threats to kill his ex-partner, the mother of his children.
Threatening Voicemails and 134 Harassing Calls
After his ex told him on June 8 she had a new partner, Powell went on a chilling rampage. On June 17, he left a terrifying voicemail warning he would “get a gun” and come to her home, prosecutor Sam Lubner revealed. Over the following weeks, Powell unleashed 134 harassing phone calls, spitting vile threats like, “I will kill him, his baby and his children. I’m going to kill anyone who gets in my way.”
Chilling Messages to Daughter and Forced Entry
Powell’s horror didn’t stop there. He ominously warned his daughter, “some guys will be round soon, something very dangerous will happen,” and told her, “if daddy goes away for a very long time don’t hate me, daddy will kill this man.” His stalking reached a terrifying peak when he forced entry into his ex’s home while she was out. Police finally arrested him on July 10.
Victim Lived in Constant Fear
The victim spoke of living in relentless paranoia, too scared to step outside her front door, fearing Powell could appear at any moment.
History of Harassment and Mental Health Claims
Powell’s record showed six previous convictions, including harassment against the same victim. In his defence, lawyer Sophia Kerridge pointed to Powell’s mental health struggles during the year before the threats. She said his contact with his children had drastically reduced, with no direct contact for over a year before the threats.
“His children were very important to him. It is not an excuse but that was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” said Ms Kerridge.
Judge Philip Katz KC slammed Powell’s actions as “absolutely disgraceful” before sentencing him to prison.
